WHAT IS VLCCM

The Verna Linzey Child Care Ministry (VLCCM) is a Christian ministry empowering vulnerable and impoverished children by attending to their needs in the community. We organized the VLCCM to express the love of God through an act of compassion and kindness to the most vulnerable ones in the community. We express this concrete love by providing a Christian learning center, hot meals and vitamins at our nutrition centers, job skills and livelihood training for their un-employed parents, and providing scholarship assistance for impoverished children who actively demonstrate academic excellence.

The VLCCM is a non-denominational ministry. This children’s ministry is named in honor of Verna M. Linzey, D.D., the highly-esteemed Pentecostal pioneer and mother. Empowering and transforming children by the power of the Holy Spirit is a vitally important part of her legacy and ministry.

WHY INVEST IN CHILDREN?

Philippine National Situation:

 Twenty-eight percent of children under age five are severely or moderately
underweight according to international standards (World Summit Goals for
Children, 1998).

 More than half of the 42,000 Barangays in the Philippines have no provisions
for attending pre-schools. Only 19% of children 4 to 6 years old are privileged
to go to public or private pre-schools.

 More than 1/3 of the more than 42,000 Barangays in the country are not
privileged to attend the required six years of elementary education.

 49% of infants and 26% of children from 1 to 6 years old suffer from iron-
deficiency and anemia.

 1.5 million Filipino children live on the streets. The Department of Social Works
and Development estimates that this number annually increases by 6,365.

 Research show that one out of three Filipino children is abused (Manila
Bulletin, 11 February 1996). During the Fall of 1999 alone, 2,393 children fell
prey to rape, attempted rape, incest, and acts of lasciviousness or prostitution
(The Department of Social Works and Development, First Semester, 1999).


VISION STATEMENT

The VLCCM seeks to release children from poverty and empower them to reach their highest potential in life.


MISSION OBJECTIVES

 Provide a safe and caring environment by providing a quality learning center

 Help children to discover God by instilling Biblical values within them

 Attend to the complex crises of vulnerable children in the community or in rural
areas

 Seek to empower families of impoverished children with skills and livelihood
training.

 Provide educational scholarships for impoverished children who demonstrate
academic excellence

 Connect impoverished children with Jesus Christ through Spirit-filled worship,
Bible studies and fellowship.

 Empower and enable impoverished children through healing and wholeness.


WEEKLY AND MONTHLY ACTIVITIES

 Day Care Center: In partnership with the community, the VLCCM provides a quality education that empowers them with total development: body, mind, and spirit. The Day Care Center of the VLCCM offers pre-school, kindergarten one and two. The weekly activities includes worship celebrations, value-oriented Bible stories, dramas, and nutrition.

 Nutrition Program. The nutrition program includes hot meals and vitamins at our three local nutrition centers.

 Skills & Livelihood Training Workshop. Since poverty is characterized by massive un-employment, the VLCCM provides free monthly training workshops for un-employed parents. This program will equip them to start thriving small livelihood businesses to earn adequate subsistence. Such ventures include making and selling peanut butter, dishwashing liquid, balloons, and many other ideas.

 Scholarship Assistance Program (SAP). Every summer, the VLCCM will organize spelling bee competitions in the communities. This program will encourage impoverished children to compete for scholarship assistance to attend the VLCCM. At a higher level, SAP will motivate low-income students to compete for assistance to attend Bible Colleges. Recipients of this program will go through a process involving interviews and recommendations from their pastors.


WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT CHILDREN

 God has a special concern for children who are at risk (Exodus. 22:22)

 God created children in His image. Therefore, no one must ever exploit children or treat them as commodities (Genesis 1:26).

 Jesus treated the children with great importance and value (Matthew 18:6)

 The Church as a community of faith must take responsibility to provide, protect, and nurture children (Acts 6:1-7)

 God is the God of the fatherless and orphans (Psalm 82:2)

 Authentic spirituality demonstrates solidarity with vulnerable children (James 1:27)

 God’s judgment will visit those who abuse boys and girls (Joel 3:3)


PUBLICATIONS

Twice a year, the VLCCM will publish its official newsletter “The Voice of the Spirit” to reflect its current ministry and update supporters of the VLCCM. The VLCCM publication will feature testimonies of transformed lives. The publication will serve as an advocate for the welfare of vulnerable children in the community. The VLCCM publication will reflect the conditions in which impoverished and abused children live.

Director

The Reverend Joel A. Tejedo is a pastor to the rural areas of Northern Philippines whose advocacy is to release children from poverty and to empower them to reach their potential in life. He is a current student of the post-graduate studies at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary, Baguio City; and lectures at Luzon Bible College (Binalonan, Pangasinan), Asia Bible College (Baguio City) and Go Walk Mission Center (Binalonan, Pangasinan).

Staff

Carolyn Tejedo is wife and volunteer teacher at the Day Care Center.

Josie Reyes, is a volunteer teacher at Tabernacle of Grace Assembly of God

Benjie Bitao, a part-time children’s teacher of children, is currently studying at Luzon Bible College

Verna M. Linzey, D.D., is a distinguished Pentecostal leader and author who is highly esteemed for her fine contribution to the understanding of Pentecostal theology, spirituality, and conviction (www.vernalinzey.org).

James F. Linzey, D.D., son of Dr. Verna Linzey, is a distinguished major and chaplain in the US Armed Forces. He is the current president of Operation Freedom, a ministry that brings military personnel to Christ; and the president of the Military Bible Association, which publishes and provides Bibles for the military (www.operationfreedom.info).
